| In 2004, the OD Pavilion Social
and Shag Club was formed with the intent of preserving the
music and dance of the 50’s and early 60’s experienced along
the Carolina coast. The original Governing Board of
Directors decided that the best way to raise money for the
local charities supported by the club was to have a golf
tournament during the long Memorial Day weekend. As a board member, Gene “Tootie” Blair was the inaugural organizer and tournament chairman. Gene held this position until his death in 2006 and at that time the decision was made to rename the tournament the Gene “Tootie” Blair Memorial Charity Golf Benefit. Even though the charities have changed through the years, this year the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad; Horry County Children’s Recovery Center; Sea Haven Youth Center Home; the Dewey Kennedy Scholarship Fund and the Hall of Fame Foundation will be the recipients of donations made possible by this year’s golf tournament. |
