2011 Booze Cruise

Our 2011 Booze Cruise on April 10th, 2011 was a huge success thanks to Louise “Weezie” Parker and, of course, all of you who participated.  The weather started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day.  ODPSSC music was heard all up and down the waterway and everybody made it back to the OD Pavilion in one piece.  This is one of our most popular club events and we’re proud that all of you who sail on the booze cruise have a large time while partying responsibly!

North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad Donation

A donation of $1,000 was made to the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad by Ocean Drive Pavilion Social Shag Club on December 30, 2011.  The NMB Rescue Squad has no paid members; 100% of all donations go back into the community, and provides the community with over 1.5 million dollars in medical care at no cost to the taxpayer.  They do not use professional fund-raisers because they do it themselves, and there is never a charge for their services.  Their members are true volunteers.  They even buy their own uniforms, and are State certified in their specialties whether medical, water rescue, extrication, haz-mat, infection control, stress debriefers, or counselors.  They work without compensation, and many donate more than 100 hours each month to keep our loved ones safe.

Children’s Recovery Center

A donation of $1,000 was made to the Children’s Recovery Center by Ocean Drive Pavilion Social Shag Club on December 30, 2011. The Children’s Recovery Center is a non-profit multidisciplinary Child Sexual Abuse Clinic that serves Horry and Georgetown Counties.  CRC provides independent medical exams and forensic interviews as well as psychological counseling for child victims of sexual and physical abuse.  Proceeds from last year’s donations facilitated the CRC’s move to a permanent child-friendly site.  This new location has the potential for expanded services for these children.

Sea Haven, Inc.
A donation of $1,000 was made to Sea Haven, Inc. by Ocean Drive Pavilion Social Shag Club on December 30, 2011. Sea Haven’s focus is on the homeless/at-risk youth and their families in the community.  Contributions help support the activities of the Sea Haven Shelter Home, which houses young boys that may not be able to reside at home for one reason or another.  In addition, their Transitional Living Program has moved forward by assisting young adults in making huge progress by finding and keeping jobs and settling into new homes.  This program continues to offer supportive services in areas of vocational counseling, job seeking skills, health and medical issues, transportation, basic life and social skills, and much more.  Currently their Outreach Program (Project Lighthouse) has students from Coastal Carolina University that volunteer to read with children from the Boys and Girls Club and Canal Street Recreation Center.  They now have a new dance area to appeal to local art and dance programs.  Through this creative learning, they hope to encourage youth to be positive and make better choices with their lives.  The Street Outreach Program continues to help homeless youth find direction to move forward in and off the streets.
